The Discovery of a Lifetime
When I was around 12 years old I received THE LEGO BOOK as a gift. It had a whole section on Master Builders who work for LEGO. I realized you really could get paid to play with LEGO and turn a toy into a career. LEGO Master Builder was my new dream job.

Taking it to the Next Level
I knew I would need practice to create my new reality. I kept building. I was building my future. I built LEGO sets, but didn't stop there. I built my own LEGO city, then a farm, an amusement park, a tower to the ceiling and lots of Egyptian pyramids. I built a volcano, a spy helmet, a winter village and a giant castle.
I spent a whole summer building a lifesize running shoe.
Heads Up!
I next discovered that Master Builders were often tasked with making human faces as a way to challenge their sculpting skills. I started by making a model of myself first, then moved on to my favorite president, Abraham Lincoln, then President Barack Obama.

Brick Factor
My next challenge was Brick Factor, a 2-day build challenge where the winner becomes the official Master Model Builder for LEGOLAND Discovery Center. My first attempt was in Michigan, where I finished in the top ten of the best LEGO builders in America.
A Real Career Starter
After Brick Factor I was given the position of Atttraction Host and quickly stepped up to Assistant Master Model Builder. My tasks included teaching LEGO workshops, hosting birthday parties, and helping kids make amazing creations.
Brick Factor 2.0
I next attempted Brick Factor in Columbus, Ohio, where I once again finished Top 10, but could not quite break through to the top spot.
And We Have A Winner!
There's two sayings, "Three strikes and you're out." or "The third time's a charm." Needless to say, the nerves were high for the thrid attempt at Brick Factor San Antonio. But the persistence won out and I moved on to become the next of 12 Master Model Builders in North America.

Today
Today I work full-time as the Master Model Builder for LEGOLAND Discovery Center San Antonio and also operate my business,* Kevin The Master Builder, which offers a wide range of custom LEGO products and services.
